In between my Junior and Senior year, I was required to do an internship at a place of my choice. We were required to hit 60 hours of interning time. While there are many internship opportunites on Maui, none spoke out to me like Akaku, Maui's community media outlet. Akaku is a multi TV channel station that shows Live, local, and legal programming on Akaku's 3 main channels, 53, 54, and 55.
Akaku is way more than just a simple TV station, as they offer an educational internship program. It was through them that I learned how to opperate a switcher during a live show, make video segments for the in-house news production, the Maui Daily, and learned how to man a camera properly. I was able to use the basic fundamentals I learned through the Media and Tech class at Kihei Charter, and apply them to a real world setting thanks to Akaku. Because of this internship, I learned that there is a lot that goes into making a TV production, especially working with professional grade equipment.
In conclusion, I couldnt have been more happy to work with Akaku during my internship. The amount of experience I got from that would also help launch me into my senior project, one of my largest endeavors so far.
